Durability
Color PPF: 5-7+ years depending on the brand, color, and exposure conditions. The film maintains its color, finish, and protective properties throughout its lifespan.
Vinyl wrap: 3-5 years in ideal conditions. In Texas heat and UV, many vinyl wraps start showing wear — fading, shrinking at edges, and adhesive failure — within 2-3 years, especially on horizontal surfaces like hoods and roofs that take the most sun.
Removal
Color PPF: Removes cleanly, revealing the protected factory paint underneath in the same condition it was in when the film was applied. This is a significant advantage — your vehicle’s original paint is preserved and perfect when you decide to change or remove the film.
Vinyl wrap: Should remove cleanly if it’s quality material that hasn’t been left on too long. But aged vinyl, cheap vinyl, or vinyl that’s been baked in Texas sun can leave adhesive residue, and in worst cases, can pull clear coat on removal. The paint condition under vinyl is unpredictable compared to PPF.
