What to Expect During Your Ceramic Coating Appointment

Before Your Appointment

Scheduling

After you request a quote and we confirm pricing based on your vehicle, we’ll schedule your appointment. Most ceramic coating jobs require 2-3 days: one day for preparation and application, plus 1-2 days for curing.

Pre-Appointment Prep

Before bringing your vehicle in:

  • Remove all personal belongings from the interior
  • Don’t wash the car — we’ll handle all preparation
  • Note any existing damage or concerns you want us to address
  • Arrange alternate transportation for the 2-3 day period

Day 1: Preparation and Application

Morning: Inspection and Wash

When you drop off your vehicle, we start with a thorough inspection. We examine every panel under high-intensity LED lighting, documenting any existing damage, paint defects, and areas of concern.

Then we perform a multi-stage wash:

  • Pre-rinse to remove loose dirt and debris
  • Foam cannon application to safely lift contamination
  • Contact wash with pH-neutral soap and clean microfiber mitts
  • Wheel and tire cleaning with dedicated non-acid cleaners
  • Rinse and dry with filtered water and clean microfiber towels

Mid-Morning: Chemical Decontamination

After the vehicle is clean, we remove bonded contaminants that washing alone can’t address:

  • Iron fallout removal — A chemical spray dissolves iron particles embedded in the paint (you’ll see them turn purple as they dissolve)
  • Tar and adhesive removal — Any road tar, sticker residue, or adhesive deposits are chemically dissolved
  • Clay bar treatment — A synthetic clay bar glides over the surface, physically removing any remaining bonded contaminants

After decontamination, the paint should feel glass-smooth to the touch.

Late Morning: Paint Correction

This is the most time-intensive step. Using a dual-action polisher, we remove:

  • Swirl marks from previous washing
  • Light scratches
  • Water spot etching
  • Oxidation
  • Dealer-installed defects

The level of correction depends on your paint’s condition. New vehicles might need a single-stage light polish. Older vehicles may need a two-stage correction (cutting compound followed by finishing polish).

We re-inspect under LED lighting after each correction stage to ensure every defect has been addressed. This step alone can take 3-6 hours depending on the vehicle’s condition.

Afternoon: Panel Wipe and Coating Application

Once the paint is corrected, we perform an IPA (isopropyl alcohol) wipe on every panel. This removes any polish residue, oils, and fillers that could interfere with coating adhesion.

The coating application itself is methodical:

  • One panel at a time
  • A small amount of coating on an applicator pad
  • Even, overlapping passes across the panel
  • Wait for the coating to “flash” (begin to level and haze)
  • Buff off excess with a clean microfiber towel
  • Inspect under LED lighting for complete coverage
  • Move to the next panel
  • Repeat for additional layers (typically 2-3 layers total)

This process takes 2-4 hours depending on the vehicle size and number of layers.

Days 2-3: Curing

The Waiting Game

After application, your vehicle stays in our climate-controlled shop for 24-48 hours. During this time:

  • Temperature is maintained between 60-80°F
  • Humidity is controlled
  • No dust or contaminants contact the surface
  • The coating undergoes its chemical curing process

We monitor the curing progress and perform spot inspections to ensure everything is developing correctly.

Pickup Day

Final Inspection

Before you arrive, we perform a final inspection:

  • Coating coverage verified under LED lighting
  • Water test to confirm hydrophobic properties
  • Any touch-up application if needed
  • Glass, wheels, and trim cleaned

Your Walkthrough

When you pick up, we walk you through:

  • A visual tour of the finished vehicle
  • Demonstration of the water beading properties
  • Your maintenance kit and instructions
  • Do’s and don’ts for the next 14 days (continued curing period)
  • Recommended products and wash techniques going forward
  • Your warranty documentation

What You’ll Notice

The first thing most clients notice is the depth. Ceramic coating adds a level of gloss and clarity that makes the paint look wet — even in dry conditions. Dark colors especially benefit, with a mirror-like reflection that factory paint alone can’t achieve.

The second thing you’ll notice is how water behaves. The first time it rains, water will sheet off the surface rather than pooling. It’s genuinely satisfying to watch.

After Your Appointment

The coating continues to harden for approximately 14 days. During this period, follow the care instructions we provide at pickup. After the curing period, maintain the coating with regular washing using the techniques and products we recommend.

We schedule an annual maintenance appointment to inspect the coating, perform any necessary decontamination, and apply a maintenance layer. This is included in most of our coating packages.
